Hyundai Motor Company has unveiled the all-electric INSTER, a new A-segment sub-compact EV, at the 2024 Busan International Mobility Show. The INSTER combines a futuristic design with a spacious interior, all within a compact SUV body. This new model is built to deliver eco-friendly flexibility, agile driving dynamics, and seamless connectivity.
Equipped with a 42 kWh battery as standard, and a 49 kWh battery for the Long-Range option, the INSTER offers a projected maximum driving range of 355 km (WLTP) on a single charge for the Long-Range model. It supports fast charging, achieving 10-80% charge in around 30 minutes using a 120 kW DC High-Power charging station. The vehicle also includes an 11 kW on-board charger as standard and features both external and internal Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality.
Building on the design legacy of Hyundai's CASPER, introduced in 2021, the INSTER features an extended body and wheelbase to provide more interior space and a robust road presence. Positioned between traditional A-segment city cars and larger B-segment models, the INSTER offers enhanced practicality and flexibility, ideal for city driving and convenient parking.
Simon Loasby, Senior Vice President and Head of the Hyundai Design Centre, mentioned 'With INSTER, we've taken the small SUV image to a bold new place for the global audience. It punches well above its weight with distinctive design and an interior that maximises its potential in exciting, customer-centric ways. We're redefining what it means to drive a sub-compact EV.'
The INSTER's exterior design has a robust yet compact SUV profile, flush surfaces, and strong fenders. It features LED daytime running lights, pixel-graphic turn signals, and tail lamps. Customers will be able to choose between 15-inch steel wheels, 15-inch alloy wheels, or 17-inch alloy wheels, and opt for a two-tone exterior with a contrasting black roof.
Interior features include a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with navigation and a wireless charging dock. The interior design features customisable upper door trim and a pixel-themed steering wheel, reinforcing the car’s high-tech image. The versatile interior allows all seats, including the driver’s, to be folded flat for increased flexibility. Sustainable materials are used throughout the vehicle, including recycled PET from bottles and bio-polypropylene from sugarcane.
Hyundai's new sub-compact EV comes with a comprehensive technology package, including advanced safety and driver assistance features such as Surround View Monitor, Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist Rear, Blind-spot View Monitor, and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist. Other features include Lane Keeping Assist, Smart Cruise Control, Highway Driving Assist, and many more.
The INSTER will launch in Korea this summer, followed by Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific. An additional variant, the INSTER CROSS, featuring a rugged, outdoor-focused design, will join the INSTER family in the future. Further details will be announced closer to the launch date.
