Hyundai has unveiled the first teaser images of its upcoming IONIQ 9, a fully electric 7-seater that marks a new chapter for the company’s IONIQ range. Set to premiere in November, the IONIQ 9 represents Hyundai’s entry into the expanding segment of large electric SUVs. The model’s launch aligns with a growing trend in the Indian automotive market where demand for electric multipurpose MPVs and large SUVs is steadily rising as consumers seek sustainable yet spacious options for family travel.

With the “9” in its name signifying a top-tier position in Hyundai’s EV lineup, the IONIQ 9 follows the success of the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6. Designed on Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the IONIQ 9 combines advanced aerodynamics and ample interior space prioritising comfort for passengers in all three rows. Hyundai’s concept for the IONIQ 9’s “Aerosthetic” design takes inspiration from the roomy structure of a boat ensuring a spacious and inviting cabin. The teaser images reveal its curving roofline, extended wheelbase, and design elements that blend Korean aesthetics with Hyundai’s signature Parametric Pixel lighting.

In India, where the EV market is still in early stages, large electric MPVs and SUVs have remained limited. However, changing consumer needs and the country’s move toward sustainable mobility are prompting a shift. MPVs have long been popular with Indian families and electric versions are now attracting interest as well-off households look for eco-friendly alternatives that do not compromise on space or comfort. Hyundai’s launch of the IONIQ 9 could help shape this emerging market, as it signals a new era of electric mobility for larger vehicles, catering to Indian consumers’ need for versatile family transport.
