Hyundai Motor Group's Executive Chair, Euisun Chung, recently visited India, marking a significant step in the Group's strategy to cement its role as a leader in the global mobility sector. During his visit, Chung reviewed Hyundai Motor Group’s strategies aimed at expanding their manufacturing capabilities and electrification in India. Hyundai Motor India plans to ramp up its production capacity to one million units by 2025, with Kia India boosting the Group’s total production in India to 1.5 million units annually. This substantial increase aligns with Hyundai’s strategy to dominate the Indian market, where it already enjoys a significant market share.
The Group plans to introduce its first locally produced electric vehicle (EV) in 2025, with an ambitious roadmap to roll out five more EV models by 2030. This move is expected to capture a larger share of India’s rapidly growing EV market.
A highlight of Chung’s visit was the first overseas town hall meeting held with Hyundai Motor India employees. The event saw about 400 employees attend in person, with another 3,000 joining via video from across India. Chung shared insights into the Group's customer-centric philosophy and its strategic focus on electrification and future mobility solutions. He emphasised the critical role of India in Hyundai's global strategy, noting the synergistic potential of the country's diverse market and Hyundai’s innovative drive.
Hyundai's commitment to India transcends its business operations. The company has actively engaged in various corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, focusing on environmental sustainability and social welfare. Initiatives include the Hyundai Motor India Foundation's efforts in afforestation, waste recycling, and community support projects. The recent partnership with Exide Energy Solutions to localize EV battery production highlights Hyundai's dedication to sustainable practices and reducing the ecological impact of its operations.
Chung's visit has set a definitive course for Hyundai Motor Group's future in India. By establishing a solid manufacturing base, expanding the EV lineup, and embedding CSR into its business model, Hyundai is not just selling cars but promoting a lifestyle aligned with future mobility and sustainability.
In his closing remarks, Chung reiterated Hyundai’s commitment to India, expressing confidence in the strategic importance of the region. “As we move forward, our focus will not only be on enhancing technological and production capabilities but also on supporting the societal fabric of India through impactful CSR activities and leading the charge towards a more sustainable automotive future,” Chung stated.
