Hyundai Motor India on Tuesday launched the sixth generation Verna with an introductory ex-showroom India price starting from INR 10.89 lakh up to INR 17.38 lakh. The new sedan makes its global debut in India before moving to other countries.
Tarun Garg, COO, HMIL, noted that the company sold 19,000 units of the Verna in 2022, and with the new model, it is targeting twice the sales of the older version. Interestingly, the sedan has received over 8,000 bookings so far in the last one month. The car has seen over 4,65,000 customers since its launch in 2006.
Unsoo Kim, MD and CEO, HMIL, noted that the new Verna will be built at the company’s Industry 4.0 Chennai plant. Notably, the company has exported nearly 4.5 lakh units of Verna so far from the Chennai plant.
Based on the K-2 platform and following the company’s ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language, the sedan features a completely new design with horizon LED positioning Lamps and DRLs along with parametric connected LED tail lamps. In addition, Garg noted that in 2022 the average age of a Verna customer is below 30 years.

In the new form, the vehicle gets longer by 70mm in wheelbase and is wider by 36 mm compared to the outgoing model. The vehicle has seven monotone shades; the company offers two dual-tone paint options for the turbo models.
Chucking out the diesel power plant, HMIL has offered the new Verna a choice of two petrol units - a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine mated to either a six-speed manual or an IVT gearbox, and a 1.5L turbo petrol unit paired with a six-speed manual or a 7-DCT gearbox. The naturally aspirated engine produces 115 hp and 144 Nm of torque with a fuel efficiency of 19.6 kmpl in the IVT form and 18.6 kmpl with the manual transmission. On the other hand, the turbo petrol unit generates 160 hp and 253 Nm of torque and returns 20.6 kmpl in DCT form and 20 kmpl with manual transmission.
On the inside, the sedan gets switchable type infotainment, a climate controller, and heated and ventilated front seats.
