HY-CNG Duo and HY-CNG names have been registered.

Hyundai is upping its CNG game by bringing a new weapon to the battle. This is specifically aimed at Tata and its twin-cylinder technology that’s changed the game about bootspace. It’s expected to be called HY-CNG Duo and follow the same as what Tata has done but obviously with a different approach to help separate from the competition.

We expect this new tech to be offered at launch with the Exter, Nios, and the Aura. This is essentially Hyundai’s complete budget range and has equivalents in the form of the Punch, Tiago, and the Tigor compact sedan. All three of Hyundai’s cars have a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 68bhp/95.2Nm in CNG guise and is mated to a five-speed MT.

By our estimates, Tata was able to liberate a significant amount of bootspace by switching its range to the twin CNG cylinder system and such a move should benefit Hyundai significantly in terms of making its cars boot-worthy again.
