According to the company, it began the seven-seater SUV development journey by forming the Alcazar Lab consisting of members across multiple teams & functions. Alcazar will compete against the likes of Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and Toyota Innova. Similar to the competition, the Alcazar comes with a seven-seater and six-seater version.

The Alcazar is based on the Hyundai-Kia K2 platform, which is what the Creta also underpins. Though in the Alcazar, the wheelbase is extended to 2,760mm, which is 150mm longer than that of the Creta. All the extra wheelbase is translated to the third row of seats. Hyundai Alcazar comes with a 2.0L four-cylinder petrol unit that also powers Elantra and the Tucson. The engine produces 156.8 hp power and 191.2 Nm of torque.

The diesel unit in the Alcazar is the same as the Creta, 1.5L turbo-diesel four-cylinder unit producing 113.4 hp and 250 Nm of torque. Both the engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission.
