Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has taken a leap in boosting the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem by expanding its Ultra-Fast Public EV Charging Network. HMIL has set up 11 Ultra-Fast charging stations across key highways and cities in India. This makes Hyundai the sole original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in India to establish such an extensive charging infrastructure. The new stations are strategically located in six cities – Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Gurugram, and Bangalore – and five major highways – Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Jaipur, Hyderabad-Vijayawada, Mumbai-Surat, and Mumbai-Nashik.
This infrastructure aims to alleviate range anxiety, a common concern for both intercity and intracity EV travel. Jae Wan Ryu, Executive Director, Corporate Planning, Hyundai Motor India Ltd, expressed the company's commitment to advancing the EV landscape, stating, “The expansion of our Ultra-Fast charging stations to 11 locations is a step in the same direction. Hyundai Motor India Ltd. is the only OEM in the country to set up 11 Ultra-fast charging stations in public locations. We are committed to India, and we will continue strengthening the charging infrastructure in line with the Indian Government’s resolve for Electrification.”
To enhance the customer experience, these stations operate 24/7 and are manned by dedicated personnel. The locations also feature various customer amenities, including restaurants and shopping complexes, catering to the diverse needs of EV users while their vehicles are being charged.
The Ultra-Fast DC chargers offer quick charging benefits, with the Hyundai IONIQ 5 users, for instance, being able to charge their vehicles from 10% to 80% within just 21 minutes. The charging sessions can be booked at attractive prices of INR 18 per unit for 30 kW Charger, INR 21 per unit for 60 kW Charger, and INR 24 per unit for 150 kW Charger. These charging stations are visible on Hyundai's myHyundai app, providing users with the convenience of discovering chargers, navigation, pre-booking charging slots, digital payments, and monitoring charging status.
Hyundai Motor India plans to install 100 charging stations by 2027, in alignment with the agreement made with the Government of Tamil Nadu during the recent Global Investor Meet in January 2024. Hyundai also aims to expand its Ultra-Fast charging stations to 10 or more new locations in 2024, solidifying its role in enhancing the overall EV experience for Hyundai and non-Hyundai EV users.
