Hyundai celebrates 20 years of exports to South Africa, with the latest addition being the Exter model, exclusively manufactured in India.

Indian-Made Exter mobility outlook

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has marked a milestone celebrating 20 years of exporting vehicles to South Africa. Since 2004, HMIL has steadily expanded its presence in the South African market, and the latest model to join the line-up is the Hyundai Exter. This compact vehicle is manufactured exclusively in India and now becomes the eighth model that HMIL exports to South Africa.

The first shipment of the Exter, consisting of 996 units, has already been dispatched to South Africa. This marks an important moment for Hyundai, which continues to extend its reach in global markets with vehicles produced at its Tamil Nadu facility.

Hyundai Exter joins a roster of models already familiar to South African customers, including the Grand i10 NIOS, Aura, i20, i20 N Line, Venue, Venue N Line, and Alcazar. This expansion further cements HMIL’s position as the largest exporter of passenger vehicles by volume from India, a reputation it has built over years of continuous growth.

Jae Wan Ryu, Function Head of Corporate Planning at Hyundai Motor India Limited, noted that 2024 is a milestone year for HMIL, celebrating two decades of delivering 'Made in India, Made for the World' vehicles to South Africa. He expressed confidence that the Hyundai Exter would receive the same positive reception in South Africa as it has in India, where it has enjoyed widespread popularity.
