Hyundai CEO José Muñoz Charts Bold Future In First Town Hall With R&D Team

In a session attended by over 800 employees and streamed worldwide, Muñoz outlined Hyundai’s strategic vision, focusing on customer-centric excellence, cutting-edge technology, and sustainability.

Hyundai Motor Company President and CEO José Muñoz held his first town hall meeting with employees at the company’s Namyang R&D Center, reinforcing his commitment to open communication and Hyundai’s mission to lead in innovation and quality.

Reflecting on his first two months as CEO, he emphasized Hyundai’s commitment to electric vehicles (EVs), autonomous driving, and flexible powertrain options to meet evolving consumer needs.

“As an engineer myself, I was eager to engage with the outstanding team at Namyang. I challenge engineers because I have high expectations for people I care about, just like family,” Muñoz said.

Future-Driven Strategy & Leadership Approach

Muñoz highlighted Hyundai’s dedication to producing high-quality, beautifully designed vehicles with advanced technology that customers value. He underscored the importance of treating customers as 'honored guests' while maintaining Hyundai’s reputation for excellence in design, safety, and performance.

Addressing the global EV transition, he stressed Hyundai’s multi-faceted approach, including hybrid electric vehicles, extended range EVs, hydrogen fuel cells, and internal combustion engines to meet diverse market demands.

“Consumer demand drives our business, and that’s why we continue to offer multiple powertrain choices. Our strategy is about flexibility,” he stated.

On autonomous driving, he reaffirmed Hyundai’s long-term investments, stating that the company’s Advanced Vehicle Platform division in Namyang is leading the charge in making driving safer, more convenient, and more efficient.

Namyang R&D: The Heart of Hyundai’s Global Innovation

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Hyundai’s Namyang R&D Center remains central to the company’s rise as a top three global mobility brand. With 3.47 million square meters dedicated to research, software development, design, and vehicle testing, the facility is a hub for innovation.

“This is where the magic happens,” Muñoz remarked, crediting Namyang for Hyundai’s increasing global sales, market share, and award-winning vehicles. He noted that no brand has won more World Car of the Year awards than Hyundai in recent years, thanks to the center’s contributions.

Call for Excellence & Customer Focus

Closing the session, Muñoz encouraged Hyundai employees to remain humble, hungry, and customer-focused.

“I am here to serve you so we can serve our customers together,” he told employees, reinforcing Hyundai’s mission to push the boundaries of mobility innovation while maintaining focus on customer satisfaction.
