The competitors
It is going to be an electrifying battle in 2025 between two of India’s biggest car makers. Hyundai will enter its budget EV innings with the Creta EV while Maruti will enter the same battle with the e Vitara its entry into the budget EV segment and also its first-ever EV not just for India but for the world.
What we know so far
The e Vitara has been revealed in its entirety and what you see in the photos is the final deal. However, if we were to put India’s special status in Suzuki’s nation hierarchy, it would come as no surprise if an e Grand Vitara was revealed. It would be a proportionately larger vehicle much closer to what we expect the Creta EV to be in terms of overall size. The e Vitara that will come to India will come in the 142bhp/189Nm FWD guise with a 60kW battery pack.
We expect similar numbers for the Creta EV but this being a Hyundai, it will have more features like level-2 ADAS and powered front seats. The former is something that Maruti Suzuki is yet to delve into even for its ICE models.
Latecomers or upping the game
Maruti and Hyundai may be behind companies like Tata, Mahindra and MG but given their position in the market, their arrival is expected to turbocharge interest in the segment. It could even possibly start the volume game in this part of the market.
