Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India (HMSI) is launching its 100 cc commuter motorcycle in India on March 15, 2023, in Mumbai. Once launched, the motorcycle will lock horns against the likes of Hero MotoCorp Splendor, TVS Radeon, Bajaj CT 100, and more such commuter motorcycles.

Notably, Splendor has been ruling the 100 cc motorcycle segment in India for over two decades now. But on the other hand, it is the Honda Activa that has been ruling the commuter scooter market in the country.

Largely, it has been Hero that has dominated India's overall two-wheeler market. However, HMSI last year overtook Hero in terms of two-wheeler registrations in September 2022.

“We feel that 100cc bikes are still holding a good market share (approx 25%) in India. The price point of the existing two offerings from Honda was a little away from the customers. That is why Honda decided to use a new platform and bring 100 cc motorcycles to take care of the entry-level market,” an HMSI official told Mobility Outlook last year.

While there are not many details available about the yet-to-be-launched Honda 100 cc motorcycle, the OEM's teaser around the same hints that the same will be named on the 'Shine' platform. Moreover, the motorcycle is rumoured to offer one of the best mileage per litre of fuel in the country.
