Honda Cars India’s popular entry level sedan, Amaze, has crossed a significant milestone in the country, retailing five lakh units since its introduction in 2013.

Amaze’s contribution to HCIL’s overall growth in the Indian market can be measured from the fact that it accounts for more than 40% of the company total sales, making it the best seller for the Japanese automaker.

Built at Honda’s Tapukara plant in Rajasthan, 40% of Amaze sales come from the Tier 1 markets, while the remaining 60% is accounted for by Tier 2 & 3 markets combined. Around 40% of Amaze customers are first time buyers, said the company, while the share of AT variants in Amaze has increase from 9% in 2013 to 30% currently.

Notably, the share of the diesel variants over the years have also come down from 67% for the first generation model to 7% in the current avatar.

Takuya Tsumura, President and CEO, Honda Cars India, said, “Honda Amaze is our strategic entry model in India and key pillar of our business. Its popularity and acceptance in both big and small cities is a testament that the premium sedan not only matches the customer needs, but also exceeds their expectations.”
