Honda Aircraft Company (HAC) has named its new light jet “HondaJet Echelon”. The company unveiled the name at the 2023 National Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) being held in the USA.

HAC had previously introduced the aircraft as the HondaJet 2600 Concept in 2021. Honda Aircraft Company President & CEO Hideto Yamasaki said the HondaJet Echelon was born to create a new category that transcends the travel experience on conventional light jets

“Expanding mobility skyward has been Honda’s long-lasting dream, and the HondaJet Echelon marks the exciting next chapter while showcasing a classic Honda story of a product that creates new value for people,” he added.

According to HAC, the HondaJet Echelon will offer a mid-sized jet experience in the light jet category and will be the world’s first single-pilot light jet capable of nonstop transcontinental flights across the United States. It will be able to attain a top speed of 834 kmph and its spacious cabin will be able to accommodate up to 11 occupants.

HAC says the new aircraft will outperform conventional light jets on typical missions by up to 20% and mid-sized jets by over 40%. It will also offer lower operating costs with a design incorporating electrification and automation of its systems.

The first flight of the HondaJet Echelon is planned for 2026 with Type Certification anticipated in 2028. The new business jet will be manufactured at HAC’s facility in Greensboro, North Carolina.
