Hindustan Zinc Limited presented an extensive range of innovative products at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. The display included advanced zinc die-casting alloys HZDA 3 and HZDA 5, Special High-Grade Zinc (SHG), and EcoZen, a low-carbon zinc variant, reflecting the company’s commitment to supporting the global automotive industry with sustainable and high-performance solutions.
Hindustan Zinc emphasised the critical role of zinc in the automotive industry, particularly in galvanised steel, which enhances corrosion resistance and extends vehicle durability. This is increasingly relevant in India, where harsh weather conditions lead to visible rust on vehicles within months. Using zinc-coated steel, widely adopted in export vehicles, is a growing priority for the domestic market. Hindustan Zinc’s products, including its SHG Zinc and EcoZen, offer superior corrosion protection, reducing maintenance costs and enhancing vehicle safety and performance.
The company’s HZDA 3 and HZDA 5 alloys, designed for the hot chamber die-casting process, cater to the evolving needs of automotive manufacturers. These alloys provide exceptional castability, dimensional stability, and finishing options, offering a sustainable alternative to imports. The die-casting alloys also contribute to a resilient domestic value chain, reducing dependency on international suppliers.
The EcoZen Zinc innovation can reduce total carbon emissions by approximately 400 kg per tonne of steel galvanised, supporting the automotive industry’s sustainability goals.
Hindustan Zinc’s portfolio also extends to lead, vital for automotive batteries, and silver, which enhances conductivity in automotive electronics. These metals provide high-performance solutions for batteries, chips, accessories, and corrosion-resistant components, aligning with the sector’s push towards electrification and localisation under stricter emissions regulations.
Arun Misra, CEO and Whole-time Director of Hindustan Zinc Limited, stated “The automotive industry is pivotal in shaping a sustainable future, and Hindustan Zinc is proud to partner in this journey. Our innovative and high-quality solutions are designed to exceed industry expectations, driving efficiency and sustainability in automotive manufacturing.”
While nearly 70% of Indian cars manufactured for export use zinc-coated steel, only about 25% of domestic vehicles adopt this practice, highlighting the need for wider application. Hindustan Zinc’s focus on galvanised steel aims to bridge this gap, ensuring vehicles meet evolving consumer and international standards.
