Hero Motors Limited (HML) has announced a strategic joint venture with German forging specialist SchmiedeTechnik Plettenberg (STP) to manufacture high-precision forged powertrain components in India. STP German metallurgy and forging company brings its expertise in high-precision forged and machined components for automotive and industrial applications. The joint venture is expected to bridge gaps in near-net shape precision forging and enhance cost efficiencies in powertrain component production. The new facility is expected to begin production by mid-2026.

Pankaj M Munjal, Chairman, HMC Group, stated that Hero Motors has been expanding not just in terms of product offerings but also across geographical markets. He emphasised that the collaboration with STP will allow HML to strengthen its footprint in the global powertrain components industry by leveraging advanced research and development along with efficient manufacturing processes.

Cornel Mueller, Chairman and CEO, STP, stated that integrating German best practices with India’s growing manufacturing capabilities will lead to significant operational benefits for both companies.

The Ludhiana-based facility will be located in Hero Industrial Park, which already houses key automotive and EV manufacturing units, including HMC HIVE, HYM, and Spur Technologies. This strategic positioning is expected to enhance operational efficiencies, supply chain integration, and innovation in powertrain component production.
