Hero MotoCorp announces that its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Gurugram, Haryana, has been honoured with the CII National Award for Excellence in Water Management. The facility secured the top position in the 'Within the Fence' category, underscoring its innovation and efficiency in water management.
The accolade recognises Hero MotoCorp's commitment to sustainability and its significant achievements in water management initiatives at the Gurugram facility. The company is diligently working towards its ambitious goal of being 500% water positive by the year 2025, showcasing its proactive stance in environmental stewardship.
Currently, Hero MotoCorp is making substantial strides in water conservation, saving nearly 3.8 million kilolitres of water annually. The company's approach to 'water stewardship' involves not only minimising water usage and wastage within its operations but also extending water access to communities beyond its premises. This recognition aligns with Hero MotoCorp's overarching commitment to ensuring water security for future generations.
Key measures include the replacement of RO filtration with Ultra Filtration (UF), the reuse of machine RO reject water in cooling towers, enhanced efficiency of DM and R.O plants, and the adoption of cascading rinsing over continuous rinsing, among other water conservation programs.
Moreover, Hero MotoCorp has invested in recycling both domestic and process water, incorporating 34 recharge shafts within the plant premises. In the fiscal year 2022-23, the facility treated a total of 140,612 kilolitres of water, with 96,139 kilolitres being recycled, and 44,473 kilolitres reused for horticulture purposes. This award not only acknowledges the manufacturing unit's achievements but also reaffirms Hero MotoCorp's dedication to sustainable practices and responsible corporate citizenship.
