HERE Technologies, a leading location data and technology platform, has announced the launch of its EV charge-aware routing service in India.

Electric vehicle (EV) sales in India nearly doubled in 2023, with projections for 2024 indicating a 66% increase. By 2030, EVs are expected to make up nearly one-third of India's passenger vehicle market. This surge has been driven by the Indian government’s policies and incentives aimed at reducing carbon emissions and decreasing reliance on fossil fuels.

The company’s EV charge-aware routing service, now available for Indian drivers and automotive manufacturers, offers dynamic routing that factors in the vehicle's battery status, available chargers, and traffic conditions. Paired with the HERE EV Charge Points service, it helps drivers reduce range anxiety, plan efficient routes, and access real-time information about charging locations.

Key Features

Range along route: Drivers receive battery consumption calculations throughout their journey, providing insights into how far their EV can travel with its current charge.

Charge-aware routing: This feature computes the fastest routes beyond the initial battery range by considering the current state of charge, charging times, and driver preferences for certain eMobility Service Providers (eMSPs). It creates a route plan with necessary charging stops to minimize travel time.

Isoline routing: Displays a range map showing the areas a driver can reach based on distance, travel time, or fuel/energy levels.

The HERE EV Charge Points service provides real-time information on charging stations, with features such as: comprehensive charge point details, where drivers can view charging facilities along their route, including information on opening hours, connector types, the number of connectors, and their availability. Information on public or restricted access to charging stations is also included.

It offers enhanced charging experience helping drivers find and access the right charger easily, reducing stress and range anxiety. As HERE partners with Tier-1 EV charge point providers, it is able to offer over 10,000 charging stations and more than 12,000 connectors across India, covering both static and dynamic data. Besides, the company ensures accurate and up-to-date information about charging stations through ongoing maintenance.

Abhijit Sengupta, Senior Director and Head of Business for India and Southeast Asia at HERE Technologies, said, “HERE’s dynamic EV map content enables drivers to navigate confidently, find the right charging facilities, and charge effortlessly. It addresses range anxiety and enhances the overall EV driving experience. This service strengthens our position in the EV space and acts as a game changer for automotive OEMs and EV drivers across India.”

With over 80% global dynamic EV coverage, including more than 1.35 million connectors worldwide, the company continues to provide OEMs with enhanced navigation and charging solutions, improving the EV ownership experience and alleviating range anxiety.
