The Japanese carmaker Honda Cars India on Tuesday announced that it has commenced the production of the City e:HEV at its manufacturing facility in Tapukara, Rajasthan.

Takuya Tsumura, President & CEO, Honda Cars India, said, “The milestone marks our commitment to bring advanced technologies for Indian customers and the beginning of our electrification journey in India. As a company, we have always been aligned with the Government of India’s vision of Make in India and bringing environmentally friendly technologies.”

The new sedan comes with Honda’s latest hybrid technology, the e:HEV, featuring a 1.5L Atkinson cycle petrol engine aided by two self-charging electric motors, one acting as the generator while the other as the traction motor with an e-CVT gearbox. The combined power output of the powertrain stands at 126Ps and 253 Nm of torque, while the company claims a fuel efficiency of 26 kmpl.

Furthermore, it also gets the Honda Sensing technology with safety systems including Lane Keep Assist, Collision Mitigation Braking, Road Departure Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control and Auto High Beam.

On the features side, it is quite similar to the non-hybrid counterpart with an 8-inch infotainment screen and a 7-inch TFT driver information cluster. However, the City now gets a one-touch sunroof control and LED reading lamps and ambient light.

Bookings for the vehicle have commenced at INR 21,000, while the launch is expected sometime in early May, alongside the deliveries starting around the same time.
