Hanon Systems, a global leader in automotive thermal management solutions for electrified mobility, has announced the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) approval of its ambitious greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goals, which include near-term targets for 2030 and a net-zero target by 2050.
With SBTi validation, the company aims to reducing its absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 50%, and scope 3 emissions from purchased goods and services by 55% per tonne of raw material by 2030, based on a 2019 baseline.
By 2040, the company aims to achieve carbon neutrality, targeting a 90% reduction in absolute scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. Its ultimate goal is to reach net-zero emissions across the value chain by 2050.
“We are proud that our science-based emissions targets have been officially approved. This milestone underscores our commitment to the Paris Agreement,” said Nurdal Kücükkaya, President and Co-CEO of Hanon Systems. 'Our carbon-neutral strategy aligns with the 1.5°C target, as validated through SBTi’s rigorous process.”
To support these targets, Hanon Systems has implemented a detailed action plan, including increased use of renewable energy sources, environmentally friendly product designs, and innovations in thermal management technology. Co-CEO Subu Nagasubramony noted, “We remain dedicated to reducing our carbon footprint and advancing low-carbon product solutions, reinforcing our commitment to combat climate change.”
Since 2021, Hanon Systems’ Carbon Neutral Office has led cross-functional teams focused on energy efficiency, renewable energy initiatives, customer engagement, and supply chain partnerships for sourcing low-carbon materials. The company’s multi-faceted approach includes installing renewable energy systems, signing power purchase agreements, and developing low-carbon variants of existing products.
With SBTi approval, Hanon Systems is positioned to make substantial progress in aligning its operations with global climate goals, showcasing its dedication to sustainability and innovation in the automotive sector.
