Ampere, the two-wheeler arm of Greaves Electric Mobility has inaugurated its first one-of-a-kind experience centre at the company’s new EV facility in Ranipet, Tamil Nadu. Greaves Electric Mobility is the wholly-owned electric mobility subsidiary of Greaves Cotton, and was formerly known as Ampere Vehicles.
Ampere is one of India's fastest growing EV brands, and the experience centre has been designed with digital interventions that can enable the customer to understand and experience smart new age Ampere electric vehicles, the company said.
As a group, Greaves Cotton has been investing significantly in people, technology and infrastructure. The company is moving ahead with an aim to provide a phygital experience wherein discerning buyers can check out the latest products, understand the world of EV & Ampere, interact with EV experts, engage through digital interfaces for simple and easy understanding of EV technology. The centre has been designed with inspiration from world’s leading customer experience centres
Nagesh A Basavanhalli, MD and Group CEO, Greaves Cotton said Ampere has been a trusted brand for pragmatic mass mobility buyers, who seek affordable and reliable solutions simplified for their everyday usage.
“With our EV megasite in Ranipet and the newly opened Experience Centre, we hereby strengthen our resolve to provide clean mobility for all. We are also committed to elevate overall customers experience with best-in-class products and other ecosystem support requirements” he said.
Speaking to the media, Basavanahalli said the company is expanding the capacity of the Ranipet plant to 2.5 lakh per year in April 2022 from the current capacity of 1.2 lakh units. The assembly line has space to increase the overall capacity to about ten lakh units per year, which will be carried out based on the demand. The expansion plan is part of the investment of INR 750 crore the company has earmarked earlier. It is in addition to the allocation of funds to the tune of INR 300 crore meant for acquiring companies.
Greaves Electric Mobility (formerly known as Ampere Vehicles Private Limited) has been a Greaves Cotton group company since 2018 and is leading Greaves’ last-mile E-mobility foray. It may be recalled that the company has acquired a 26% stake in electric-3 wheeler manufacturer MLR Auto, based in Hyderabad.
As per the arrangement, Greaves has the right to raise its stake to 51% and move ahead to acquire 100%. The company will launch its electric 3-wheeler L5 soon, he said.Earlier, Greaves Electric Mobility acquired ELE, the makers for e-rickshaws. With these initiatives, the company is pushing boundaries to create an affordable and sustainable ecosystem for clean last-mile mobility in the country.
In the E-2W segment, Ampere has presence in both the B2C and B2B markets, with a wide product portfolio across multiple product segments, including high and city speed versions, he added.
