Gogoro Inc has inked a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL), a prominent Indian oil giant boasting over 21,000 retail outlets. This partnership marks a major step toward revolutionizing India's urban two-wheel transportation system by spearheading a massive electric transformation.
Horace Luke, the CEO and founder of Gogoro, underscored the importance of battery swapping as a key driver for electric vehicle adoption in India. With India undergoing a radical shift towards electric mobility, this strategic collaboration is set to play a pivotal role in building the necessary infrastructure.
HPCL is eager to leverage Gogoro's expertise to create a robust battery swapping infrastructure tailored for two-wheel vehicles, fostering a clean, safe, and easily accessible electric vehicle ecosystem in Indian cities.
Gogoro's battery swapping network, already more widespread than traditional gas stations in Taiwan, will be the cornerstone of this transformation. The Gogoro Network boasts over 1.3 million smart batteries and 12,000 battery swapping stations at 2,500 locations. With a staggering 500 million battery swaps to date, it has contributed to saving over 750,000 tons of CO2 since its inception.
