Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, has said there should be an R&D organisation primarily focused on the Indian construction equipment manufacturing industry.
The minister noted that the same could do research and help discover new technology for a better future of the construction equipment industry. ARAI as an enabler for the automobile industry was mentioned as an example of what the organisation may do for the construction equipment manufacturing vertical.
Addressing ICEMA's Annual Session 2022, Gadkari also extended the ministry's support in creating such an organisation. He said, “Innovation, entrepreneurship, science, technology, research, skill, and successful practice – we call this knowledge, and the conversion of knowledge into wealth is the future.”
Hinting towards LNG and CNG, Gadkari requested manufacturers to concentrate on the fuel efficiency aspect as the same can help in saving costs and at the same time reduce pollution too. “It’s time to change and manufacturing of JCBs on electric should be started,” he noted
Emphasising on a skilled workforce, appropriate training, and road safety for long-term planning, Gadkari said the construction equipment industry as a vertical is giving strength to the Indian economy.
As per the data released by the Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers Association (ICEMA), the construction equipment industry sold 92,470 units in FY21.
