French automotive technology major, Faurecia has announced the acquisition of designLED, a Scotland-based company that specialises in advanced backlighting technologies.
The acquisition will strengthen Faurecia’s offer for display technologies and enrich its immersive experiences for the cockpit of the future, said the company in a release.
In July 2020, Faurecia had acquired Canadian start-up IRYStec Software, which had developed the world’s first software platform using perception and physiology to optimise the user experience of display systems.
Together with IRYStec, the acquisition of designLED is expected to help Faurecia develop new types of advanced backlighting for use cases that promote safety, personalisation, and convenience.
This will give Faurecia Clarion Electronics greater design freedom for new generations of displays that are easy to integrate in any type of cockpit configuration, said the company. Faurecia Clarion Electronics is a newly created business group with Faurecia that specialises in electronics, software & artificial intelligence for personalised user experiences.
Faurecia is looking at building on designLED’s rich intellectual property portfolio, advanced modelling and simulation capabilities. In addition, designLED’s flexible, energy-efficient backlighting technologies can be adapted to virtually any automotive surface, including complex displays and interiors.
Edouard da Silva, Displays Global Product Line Director, Faurecia said immersive experiences are fast becoming a defining factor in mobility, and through the acquisition of designLED, the company aims to strengthen Faurecia’s unique positioning in the cockpit user experiences. “designLED’s advanced technologies and team will enrich Faurecia Clarion Electronics’ display technologies ecosystem,” he said.
