While the Government of Goa has not given any reasons behind the withdrawal of the policy, it seems as if the target set for EVs under the policy has been met.

Goa has become the first Indian State to roll-back subsidies offered on electric vehicles. Central and FAME II subsidies, however, will continue to remain in the picture for electric vehicle buyers in the State.

The Government of Goa's Department of New & Renewable Energy, on July 22, 2022, issued a notice informing that the State Government EV subsidy will not be eligible for electric two/three/ four-wheelers purchased on or after July 31, 2022.

The notification read, 'Government is pleased to announce to discontinue the scheme for 'Promotion of Electric Vehicles in the State of Goa' notified vide Series 1.' Notably, Goa's EV promotion policy was put into effect last year in December. This means that the Government only operated the policy for approximately seven months.

While the Stata Government has not given any reasons behind the withdrawal of the policy, it seems as if the target set for EVs under the policy has been met. Goa’s EV subsidy policy caps eligibility to only 3,000 electric two-wheelers, 50 electric three-wheelers, and 300 electric four-wheelers.
