Drive System Design (DSD), an engineering consultancy and a subsidiary of Hinduja Tech, is presenting its latest developments in electrified propulsion systems at the IAA Transportation 2024 event in Hannover, Germany.

DSD, acquired by Hinduja Tech in December 2022, has a background in designing driveline and transmission systems for internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Since 2010, the consultancy has expanded its focus to electric vehicle propulsion, catering to a variety of sectors, including automotive, aerospace, and defence. With technical centres in North America and the UK, and commercial hubs in South Korea, Japan, and India, DSD provides global reach for its clients.

DSD’s core competencies lie in systems integration, attribute optimisation, performance enhancement, and development testing. Some of the key projects and technologies include a dual-clutch transmission project aimed at maximising fuel efficiency for a leading European OEM while maintaining a premium driving experience. This project is managed through DSD’s Infinite Control Software platform. In terms of sustainability, DSD is focusing on Powder Metallurgy by using powder metal for high-volume products. This approach can achieve cost savings of around 15% and reduce the carbon footprint of the parts by approximately 40%. Additionally, DSD is promoting the use of soft magnetic compounds in motor design to enhance performance and maintain price stability.

For Lubrication Testing of e-Axle Transmission, DSD employs a combination of physical and virtual validation using CAE tools to assess design performance across various driving scenarios, thereby enhancing efficiency and durability for automotive manufacturers. The company will also introduce its Open Platform Inverter (OPI) SiC, a versatile inverter hardware and software platform for motor components and motor control IP development.

Shankar V, EMEA Regional Head of Hinduja Tech, said, 'The acquisition of DSD in 2022 marked a significant milestone for Hinduja Tech. DSD's expertise in powertrain systems perfectly complements our existing capabilities, and their presence in the EMEA region has been instrumental in driving our growth here.'

Through their combined efforts, Hinduja Tech and DSD aim to support the global transition towards sustainable transportation by offering innovative engineering solutions for electric, hybrid, and conventional powertrains.
