Denso - Rohm

Denso Corporation and Rohm Co., Ltd. have announced their intent to explore a strategic partnership in the semiconductor sector, aimed at addressing the increasing global demand for automotive semiconductors. As the push for carbon neutrality accelerates, particularly through the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), the need for advanced electronic components and semiconductors has soared. These components are critical to vehicle electrification and to the development of intelligent vehicle systems, such as automated driving and connectivity, which are expected to play a key role in reducing traffic fatalities and fostering a more sustainable society.

Denso and Rohm have a longstanding history of collaboration, working closely on the trade and development of semiconductors for automotive applications. Now, with the global shift towards cleaner and smarter transportation, the companies are looking to deepen their partnership to ensure a stable supply of high-quality, high-efficiency semiconductors. These semiconductors will be essential for next-generation automotive systems, contributing significantly to the sustainability of future vehicle designs.

In addition to enhancing their collaborative efforts, Denso will acquire a portion of Rohm's shares, further solidifying the partnership between the two corporations.

Denso President and CEO, Shinnosuke Hayashi, highlighted the importance of semiconductors as key devices in the realisation of future vehicle systems. He expressed confidence in Rohm's extensive experience in producing a wide range of automotive semiconductors, noting that integrating its automotive expertise with Rohm’s semiconductor capabilities will help ensure a stable supply and accelerate technological advancements.

Rohm’s President and Representative Director, Isao Matsumoto, said the strengthened collaboration will enable both companies to make meaningful contributions to achieving carbon neutrality. By working together on technological developments at the device level, both companies aim to create end products and systems that promote sustainability in both the automotive and industrial equipment sectors.
