The Government of Delhi may soon have a dedicated portal for retrofitting ICE vehicles to EVs. The portal, once launched, will contain information about the cost of retro fitments and companies authorised by the Government to do so.

A total of 11 companies have been shown the green flag to start converting ICE to EVs. These companies might start operations in full swing within two or three months from now. ICAT and ARAI were the institutions involved in giving approvals to these companies.

The Delhi Transport Department and the National Informatics centre are working on the portal, and the objective is to bring the customers willing to convert ICE vehicles into EVs and companies doing so under one platform.

It is worth mentioning here that the Government of Delhi, in November 2021, had mandated the scrapping of 15-year-old petrol and 10-year-old diesel vehicles. The move to legalise ICE to EV conversion, as per the Government, will help it fight pollution by aiding the push for more EVs on the road.

Delhi has registered more than 1.40 lakh EVs so far, and the city is one of the country's top 10 EV adopters. The Government of Delhi had de-registered over one lakh diesel vehicles plying on its roads in January this year.
