The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) led by Defence Minister Raksha Rajnath Singh, has accorded its Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for capital acquisition proposals worth INR 76,390 crore for the armed forces. These procurements will be made under the ‘Buy (Indian)’, ‘Buy & Make (Indian)’ and ‘Buy (Indian-IDDM)’ categories under the Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP) 2020. The AoN is the official acceptance of a procurement requirement for the armed forces.
The DAC has approved the procurement of Rough Terrain Fork Lift Trucks, Bridge Laying Tanks, Wheeled Armoured Fighting Vehicles with Anti-Tank Guided Missiles and Weapon Locating Radars for the army. These will be sourced from domestic sources, emphasising indigenous design and development.
The Indian Navy has received clearance for the procurement of Next Generation Corvettes at an estimated cost of INR 36,000 crore. These new warships will be built in India and constructed based on the new in-house design of the navy. It will undertake surveillance missions, escort operations, deterrence, Surface Action Group operations, Search & Attack and Coastal Defence missions with these new warships.
Apart from the army and navy, the air force has received approval to procure new engines for its Sukhoi SU-30 MKI fighter aircraft and Dornier Do-228 transport aircraft from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
