Technology company Continental has reached a significant production milestone at its Gurgaon plant, producing 10 million Electronic Brake Systems (EBS) and 100 million Wheel Speed Sensors (WSS), both critical components for vehicle safety.

The EBS portfolio includes Electronic Stability Control (ESC) for passenger cars and Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS) for both cars and two-wheelers. These technologies are essential for maintaining vehicle stability and preventing wheel lock-up during braking, ensuring steerability and control.

The WSS plays a crucial role in control systems like ABS and ESC, providing the signals required for their optimal performance. With road safety being a pressing concern globally, these systems have proven vital in reducing accidents and fatalities. In India alone, 1,264 accidents and 42 deaths occur daily due to road crashes, according to a 2023 Ministry of Road Transport and Highways report. To combat this, ABS technology was made mandatory in 2019, and the government has proposed mandating ESC since 2022.

Sukhdeep Sandhu, Head of Safety and Motion at Continental Automotive India, said, “Safety is non-negotiable. At Continental, we consistently bring relevant technologies to market, helping make vehicles and roads safer. Our expertise in active and passive safety systems plays a key role in reducing traffic-related fatalities and injuries.”

Continental has been pursuing a long-term global strategy known as 'Vision Zero', aiming for a world without road fatalities, injuries, or crashes through technological innovations. As one of the largest manufacturers of WSS in India, Continental supplies these components to leading OEMs in India and exports them to other Asian and European markets.

Anudeep Garg, Head of the Gurgaon plant, said, 'Our adoption of advanced Industry 4.0 technologies has enabled us to streamline our supply chain, maintain product quality, and enhance efficiency. We aim to increase the production capacity of EBS and WSS by double digits over the next three years.'
