German Tyre Manufacturer Continental is expanding its market share in the tyre segment for fully electric vehicles.

The premium tyre manufacturer has now received tyre equipment approvals for more than 40% of the all-electric passenger car and van models produced in Europe and over 50% in the Americas, the company said in a press release.

With fully electric models now available from almost all car segments – from cabin scooters, small and mid-size cars to SUVs and high-performance sports cars – there is a need for individual tyre configurations for each vehicle type, said Andreas Schlenke, tyre developer at Continental.

The company has been working for over a decade on developing its existing portfolio so that they meet the requirements of all electric vehicles and, at the same time, are able to sustainably reduce emissions from combustion vehicles as well. Schlenke said almost all of Continental’s tyre range is optimised for all drive types.

Electric mobility is also becoming increasingly popular in the van segment. Continental tyres are fitted to more than a third of all fully-electric campers and vans produced in Europe, with a total of nine different tyre models, summer and all-season tyres, said the company.
