Clean Electric has unveiled a new battery technology that can fully charge electric two-wheelers (e-2W) and three-wheelers (e-3W) in just 12 to 15 minutes, significantly reducing the current EV charging times, which typically range from 60 to 120 minutes. These fireproof batteries have been rigorously tested for 3700 rapid charge cycles, exhibiting only an 11% degradation in overall range. Produced at Clean Electric’s advanced manufacturing facility in Pune, the company can produce up to 1200 battery packs per month.
The proprietary battery technology features several industry-first innovations, including direct contact liquid cooling (DCLC) for electric four-wheelers (e-4W) and large battery systems, as well as self-contained adaptive active liquid cooling (SCALC) for e-2W and e-3W battery systems. The integrated cell-to-pack (CTP) battery architecture allows for intrinsically safe batteries that mitigate thermal runaway risk and enable rapid charging with higher packaging efficiency, boosting EV range without added degradation.
Clean Electric has been collaborating with reputable EV original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and established startups to address major barriers to mass EV adoption, such as the risk of EV fires, long charging times, and limited range. The company recently showcased its innovative technology in Pune with a live demonstration. A 2.2 kWh e-2W battery and a 12.5 kWh e-3W battery were charged from 0 to 80% state of charge (SOC) in just 10 minutes using a constant 5C charge rate with BIS-approved Type 6, Bharat DC-001, and globally accepted CCS 2 DC public chargers, making it the world’s fastest-charging production electric vehicle.
Ankit Joshi, Chief Product Officer at Clean Electric, stated “Our proprietary 12-minute charging technology sets a new global standard that will drive the EV industry forward. Committed to sustainability, we strive to democratise rapid charging for EVs, coupled with long battery life, reducing environmental impact and shaping the future of electric vehicles.'
