The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has announced that it is organising a Virtual Conference and Exhibition on Factory and Plant.

With the participation of over 50 exhibitors from all over the country, the event, organised through Virtual Expo (Digital Kiosk), will run for 30 days beginning October 26, CII said in a press release.

The three-day conference session focuses on Industry 4.0 / 5.0, Factories of the Future: Connected, Smart and Digitised, Transforming factories of future in India: Green Sustainable Factories, How Green Factories & Green Manufacturing can accelerate the net-zero transition, Post Pandemic - Safety in Factories and Plants, Safety & Digitalised Factory / Plant Operations, Start-up’s Transforming the Business Environment, Transform to Smart & Sustainable Manufacturing – An MSME Perspective.

Vikram Kirloskar, Past President, CII & Chairman, CII Manufacturing Council Chairman, CII Trade Fairs Council and Vice Chairman, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said India seems to have rightly grasped the dynamism of ‘Make in India. It has swiftly moved towards gearing up across all sectors. The government is taking decisive steps to reboot the infrastructure facilities by building better highways, improving turnaround at ports and airports, and investing in railways and waterways.

He further said that India also has the distinct advantage of having an extensive reservoir of knowledge capital, a rich resource base and an affluent middle class which have provided the country with the inherent capability to emerge as an attractive destination for investment.

The technological changes taking place around the globe are being adopted by Indian industry. Industry 4.0 is resulting in disruptive trends in the manufacturing space, creating a new set of winners and losers, he said.

Digital collaboration tools are primed to play a critical role in enabling workers to tap into the collective knowledge of the enterprise, solve problems with experts remotely, and turn internet of things (IoT) data from the shop floor into lasting value. Industry 4.0 has the inherent potentials of unlimited opportunities for start-ups, especially tech start-ups, though not strictly limited to them. Companies, particularly manufacturing companies, need to take advantage of the technologies to remain efficient and competitive, Kirloskar added.

Amit Sharma, Chairman, Factory and Plant Expo 2021, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Consulting Engineers, said that amidst the fundamental shift in the industry where there is a convergence of sincere efforts towards decarbonisation, a shift towards electrification, a shift towards more sustainable and green infrastructure and assets, coupled with the value chain and supply chain realignment had happened globally due to the impact of the pandemic. This change has made the world move towards a more sustainable and reasonable approach for creating the infrastructure and assets for future growth. “Digitalisation with the captive audience of factories and plants truly has the potential to change the way we run our plants more efficiently and more sustainably and more in green manner,” he added.
