BYD is finally updating its opening batsman. The E6 will undergo a major transformation in terms of features and is expected to be re-launched in India as the M6 MPV. This car is already on sale in Hong Kong and Singapore and brings the MPV in line with the positioning of the Seal and Atto 3 in India.

It now gets three rows of seating, an upgraded cabin and an upgraded feature list that includes an uprated 12.8-inch display, new steering wheel, 360-degree camera, powered tailgate, climate control and a completely revamped centre console which is now incidentally a beige over black combination.

The E6 was known for its massive range and this stays true to that fact. Powering the e6/M6 is either a 55.4kWh or a 71.8kWh battery pack paired with a single electric motor. India is expected to get the latter, a bump from the 71.7kWh unit of the outgoing model. The output now stands at 204bhp and 310Nm while the range is now up by 30kms over the previous car’s 500km DTE.

BYD has been carving niches in the premium segments with the Atto 3 and Seal sedan and compared to them the E6 while offering fantastic range and space felt ‘under-featured’. On paper, this one looks to have addressed those issues and now stands as a genuine electric alternative to the Toyota Innova range.
