Bosch is intensifying its software-driven transformation, aiming to generate €1 billion in revenue from software and related services by the early 2030s. With its deep-rooted expertise in manufacturing, the company is merging automation, AI, and digital twins to revolutionize factory operations.
'Bosch knows factories like the back of our hand. Our solutions are made by users for users,' says Dr Tanja Rueckert, Board Member, Robert Bosch GmbH.
At the heart of this transformation is Bosch Rexroth’s ctrlX AUTOMATION, an open automation system with over 2,000 customers and 100 partner companies. It enables seamless integration of automation technologies through ctrlX OS, a flexible, app-driven ecosystem that supports co-creation with third-party developers. More than 80 apps, ranging from IoT connectivity to AI-powered vision systems, are now available, accelerating digital adoption in manufacturing.
NEXEED: The Brain Of Smart Factory
Bosch’s NEXEED software enhances Industry 4.0 by optimizing production efficiency, reducing maintenance costs by 25%, and improving machine availability by 15%. It leverages AI-driven predictive maintenance and real-time process monitoring, offering factory-wide transparency and efficiency gains. Already adopted by global brands like Sick and Osram, NEXEED also powers 150 Bosch plants, demonstrating its impact on scalable industrial automation.
Semantic Stack
The Bosch Semantic Stack enables companies to unlock the value of their vast data reserves by structuring machine and lifecycle data into digital twins. This ensures reliable insights for informed decision-making. A key application is the Battery Passport, which will help manufacturers comply with EU regulations by 2027 by tracking CO2 footprints, performance, and recycling information for high-capacity batteries.
Model Factory In Ulm
At Bosch Rexroth’s model factory in Ulm, the company showcases its vision for fully connected, AI-driven manufacturing. The facility provides real-world insights into how automation, flexible production, and sustainability shape the factories of tomorrow. Since its launch in 2021, it has attracted 8,400 visitors, demonstrating modular software architecture, smart logistics, and scalable industrial solutions.
The Road Ahead
With its expanding software portfolio, Bosch is bridging the gap between traditional manufacturing and AI-powered automation, ensuring factories become more intelligent, efficient, and adaptable. As digitalization reshapes the industrial landscape, the company is positioning itself as the go-to technology partner for future-ready manufacturing solutions.
