BorgWarner’s Clean Emissions Products Hold 88% Of Sales In 2022

The company reduced its energy consumption by 13% in CY22 compared to a year earlier due to several actions, including using smart meters at BorgWarner’s manufacturing sites.

BorgWarner has released its 2023 Sustainability Report, “Accelerating Action,” highlighting the company's progress in 2022 towards meeting its environmental stewardship, social responsibility and governance (ESG) objectives and outlining additional goals for 2023 and beyond.

The report suggested that 88% of the company’s sales in 2022 came from clean and emissions-reducing products, while 53% of the total R&D happened for in electrification products. Moreover, in 2022 the company started with workstreams dedicated to reducing its Scope 3 emissions by 25% by 2031 compared to the 2021 baseline.

Additionally, the company reduced its energy consumption by 13% in CY22 compared to a year earlier due to several actions, including using smart meters at BorgWarner’s manufacturing sites.

On the human resource side, the company promoted an inclusive workforce through numerous initiatives, including campus partnerships, scholar programmes, second chance hiring programmes etc. While upskilling of the workforce through specialised programmes such as “Power to Evolve”, which gives mechanical engineers the skills they need to work on electric drive systems, were also undertaken.

Frédéric Lissalde, President and CEO, BorgWarner, said, “At our 2023 Investor Day earlier this month, we unveiled ‘Charging Forward: 2027,’ which underscores our commitment to operating sustainably as we accelerate our electrification strategy.”

The continued support of the employees and collaboration with industry partners enables the company to build on the momentum in pursuit of a clean, energy-efficient world and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035, he added.
