Further building on its technical and engineering footprint in India, BorgWarner has opened a new 95,000 sq ft electric propulsion engineering centre in Bangalore.
The new engineering centre will work on inverters, DC/DC converters, on-board chargers, integrated drive modules, battery management systems, and propulsion controllers, said a release issued by the leading global supplier.
The company had inaugurated a technical centre in Bangalore in December 2022, which – together with the new engineering centre – will work with BorgWarner’s global and local customers.
The engineering centre will employ more than 550 people in 2023, including several newly created positions.
According to Guenther Raab, Vice President of Engineering, BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems, the company is planning to grow its electric vehicle revenues to around 45% of its sales by 2030, and to reach carbon neutrality by 2035. The India Propulsion Engineering Center will play a vital role in achieving these ambitious targets globally, while setting up the foundation for future growth in electric mobility, Raab said.
“The tech centre will focus on electric propulsion systems, software, and electronics hardware capabilities including functional safety and cybersecurity in India to drive BorgWarner’s global platforms,” Raab said.
At the recently concluded Auto Expo 2023 – Components Show, BorgWarner demonstrated its sustainable product developments for OEMs in India.
