BorgWarner, a global leader in innovative and sustainable mobility solutions, has strengthened its longstanding partnership with a major North American automaker by extending contracts for several wastegate turbocharger programs.

The extension reinforces the reliability and performance of BorgWarner’s wastegate turbo technology, which enhances lightweighting, durability, and efficiency. Featuring electrically actuated wastegate actuators, these turbochargers allow for precise control of boost levels, improving fuel efficiency and reducing emissions. Their quick boost response optimises engine performance, ensuring higher power output while maintaining a compact engine design.

BorgWarner’s turbochargers play a crucial role in amplifying engine output, with some platforms requiring a single turbo, while others need dual configurations for optimal airflow and performance. While the contract extensions require no major technological modifications, BorgWarner’s initial designs were meticulously engineered to ensure each turbo meets the automaker’s stringent performance specifications.

Volker Weng, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc and President and General Manager of Turbos and Thermal Technologies, said, “BorgWarner has had a trusted relationship with this OEM for over a decade, supplying high-performance turbochargers that meet their evolving needs. These platform extensions highlight the strong collaboration between our engineering teams, and we look forward to continuing this partnership well into the next decade.”
