BorgWarner has announced that its Suzhou facility has crossed one million production mark for inverters, while its Singapore facility has produced its 13,500,000th Viper power switch. The company’s Suzhou facility started producing inverters since September 2017.
As a result, the Suzhou Plant Phase II has been launched to expand its inverter production capacity by adding Viper manufacturing capability, making the facility its second largest Viper production site around the globe after the Singapore site.
As per a press release from the company, these milestones underscore BorgWarner’s strong innovation and production capabilities and its Charging Forward strategy to drive the trend of electrification in the global automotive industry.
Notably, the Singapore facility began producing small batches of the first-generation of Viper power switches in 2014.
Working On Electronics
In another announcement, BorgWarner has stated to enter into a strategic partnership with Wolfspeed wherein the product company will invest $500 million in Wolfspeed’s financing transaction. Accordingly, the company has also filed a Form 8-K disclosing its commitment to invest.
Under the multi-year agreement the company will be entitled to purchase up to $650 million of devices annually.
Frédéric Lissalde, President and CEO, BorgWarner, noted that silicon carbide-based power electronics play an increasingly important role for the customers as the electric vehicle business continues to accelerate.
Notably, BorgWarner’s Charging Forward strategy targets $4.5 billion of electric vehicle revenue for 2025, compared to less than $350 million in 2021.
Gregg Lowe, President and CEO, Wolfspeed, said, “The announcement demonstrates the creative solutions two collaborative and strategic partners are pursuing to better support the growing demand for silicon carbide devices. BorgWarner has been a strong partner with Wolfspeed for many years.”
