US-based Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) firm Wisk has further strengthened its longstanding partnership with Boeing, securing $ 450 million in funding.
Wisk is developing an all-electric, self-flying air taxi and the latest investment from Boeing makes it one of the most well-funded AAM companies in the world.
Marc Allen, Chief Strategy Officer, Boeing, said, “Boeing and Wisk have been at the forefront of AAM innovation for more than a decade and will continue to lead in the years ahead.”
The latest investment reconfirmed Boeing’s belief in Wisk’s business and the importance of their work in pioneering all-electric, AI-driven, autonomous capability for the aerospace industry, Allen said.
Wisk will use the investments to support an intensive growth phase over the next year, as it prepares for the launch of scale manufacturing and prepares for market entry. Wisk’s 6th generation eVTOL aircraft is the first-ever candidate for certification of an autonomous, all-electric, passenger-carrying aircraft in the US.
Gary Gysin, CEO, Wisk, said, “Wisk is extremely well-positioned to deliver on our long-term strategy and commitment to safe, everyday flight for everyone.” Boeing provides Wisk with access to a breadth of resources, industry-leading expertise, a global reach, extensive certification experience, and more, he added.
Originally commencing operations as Zee Aero in 2010, which later merged with Kitty Hawk Corporation, the commercial potential of their 5th generation aircraft was the catalyst for the creation of Wisk, which began with an investment from Boeing.
