BMW Motorrad has finally introduced its flagship adventure motorcycle in India – the R1300 GS. This motorcycle replaces the R1250 GS in India and has been priced at Rs 20.95 lakh (ex-showroom).

This new GS is Rs 40,000 more expensive than the outgoing model and will be sold in a total of four variants. Each of these variants differ only in terms of the features they offer. The rest of the bits like the engine performance and the overall dimensions of the bike remain the same.

This new BMW gets its power from a brand new 1,300cc, liquid-cooled, boxer engine. This motor has been heavily revised and now makes a lot more power at 145bhp at 7,750rpm and 149Nm at 6,500rpm and is linked to a six-speed gearbox that uses a shaft drive system. This engine is a lot more compact as the gearbox has been placed below the engine and not behind as seen on the R1250 GS.

Like all other motorcycles in its line-up, the R1300 GS is also packed well with electronics. It is equipped with multiple levels of ABS and traction control along with four riding modes – Eco, Rain, Road, Enduro – hill start control, brake control, cruise control, and tyre pressure control. Other features including the keyless ride, heated grips, and charging slot, are also offered.

At the current price tag, the R1300 GS competes with the Ducati Multistrada V4 and the Honda Africa Twin. The bookings for the R 1300 GS are open and deliveries will commence later this month.
