BMW Group India has posted its best-ever first-quarter car deliveries for January to March 2025, recording a 7 percent growth over the same period last year. The company delivered 3,914 BMW and MINI cars along with 1,373 BMW Motorrad motorcycles. Of the total car sales, 3,764 units were BMW models and 150 were MINI. This performance marks the strongest first quarter for the company and sets a high benchmark for the remainder of the year.
The highlight of this growth was the rise in BMW’s electric vehicle sales, which saw a 206 percent increase year-on-year. BMW and MINI together delivered 646 electric vehicles during the quarter, establishing BMW Group India as the most preferred luxury electric vehicle brand for the third consecutive year. The iX1 Long Wheelbase, which was launched at Auto Expo 2025, has played a crucial role in this success by receiving over 1,500 bookings and becoming the best-selling BMW EV in Q1. BMW now offers six electric cars and two electric scooters in India, backed by a growing network of chargers and support services such as BMW Destination Charging and Smart E-Routing.
The company’s range of long wheelbase cars, including the 7 Series, 5 Series, 3 Series, and the iX1, experienced a 187 percent rise in sales. The 5 Series Long Wheelbase was the top-selling sedan in its segment, while the 3 Series Long Wheelbase retained its leadership. Since 2021, these extended models have grown in popularity and now contribute up to 30 percent of BMW India’s annual sales.
In the ultra-premium segment, the BMW Luxury Class—which includes the BMW 7 Series, i7, X7, and XM—remains a strong performer. Nearly one in five cars sold by BMW in the first quarter was from this high-end category. The 7 Series continues to hold its position as a preferred limousine, while the X7 gained momentum in the full-size SUV space.
Sports Activity Vehicles (SAVs) accounted for 55 percent of BMW’s car sales, registering 2,079 units and marking an 11 percent increase. The BMW X1 emerged as the most popular SAV, contributing to over 30 percent of total SAV sales and leading the compact premium SUV segment. The all-new X5 and the iX1 Long Wheelbase also contributed to this growth. The company expects the upcoming deliveries of the new X3 to further bolster its SAV performance.
MINI India delivered 150 units in Q1 2025, with the MINI Cooper S being the top-seller, more than doubling its sales compared to the previous year. BMW Motorrad sold 1,373 motorcycles, with the G 310 RR and the BMW 900 GS/GSA being the most popular in their respective segments.
BMW’s retail strategy also saw significant transformation with the launch of Retail.NEXT, a modern dealership experience involving a total investment of INR 365.6 crore. This new format will be extended to nine more locations in Q2 2025, including Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. Meanwhile, the BMW India Financial Services division continues to support customer acquisition, with one in four BMW or MINI cars sold under finance.
