BMW Group Classic has expanded its digital historical archive, making a vast collection of BMW, MINI, and BMW Motorrad model overviews accessible to the public. This comprehensive online catalogue, now available through the BMW Group Online Archive, offers enthusiasts, media, and researchers a detailed historical insight into BMW’s legacy vehicles.
Covering 80 years of automotive history (1928-2008), the database features 424 BMW models, spanning from the BMW 3/15 hp to the BMW 3 Series (E46) and BMW Z4 (E85/E86).
Each model overview includes concise descriptions of body variants, engines, and key specifications, accompanied by high-resolution images sourced from BMW Group Classic’s vehicle collection and historical media archive. A total of 614 data sets and 524 images were processed to create this detailed resource, with provisions for future expansions to include newer vehicle generations.
Beyond the model overviews, users can explore BMW Group’s corporate history, including publications, brochures, workshop literature, and specialist books, through the newly revised 2024 BMW Group Classic Online Archive.
Katrin Gfrörer, Head of BMW Group Archives and Historic Vehicle Collection, said, “By making our complete historical model overviews available online, we address a longstanding demand for detailed product history while enhancing customer satisfaction with another powerful digital tool. Additionally, most of the database in our online archive is now publicly accessible, reinforcing BMW Group Classic’s commitment to digitalization.”
With this digital archive, BMW Group Classic preserves its automotive heritage while making it easier than ever for enthusiasts and researchers to explore, analyze, and celebrate BMW’s rich history.
