BMW has pulled the covers off the Skytop Concept at the annual Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. The open-top two-seater, according to the German marquee, resembles a meticulously crafted vehicle sculpture, with a flowing, sporty elegance that complements its athletic, muscular stance.
Taking cues from the BMW Z8, the Concept Skytop previews the successor to the current-gen Z4 which is on sale in various markets across the globe. The GT car gets the signature kidney grille with illumination, winglets that replace the traditional door handles located on the door shoulders, and LED headlamps sitting flush in alumimium housings.
The leather finish on the roof is carried over to the roll-over bar, combined with side fins on the B-pillar and a fully retractable rear window. The overall proportions too, be it the long bonnet, the extensive wheelbase, or the sloping roofline merging into the boot area, are reminiscent of the Grand Tourer traits.
Bathed in brown leather, the interior of the new BMW Concept Skytop features familiar elements such as the latest-gen iDrive infotainment screen, three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, and a Crystal finish for the gear lever. At the heart of the car will be the most powerful version of the company’s V8 engine.
The Concept Skytop is expected to make its debut in the coming years, and will definitely make its way to Indian shores. The Indian market has, in the recent past, been open and inviting when it comes to the top-end vehicle range, and this successor to the Z range will be no different to the local consumer once it arrives.
