Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has delivered a customised Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear (CBRN) HAZMAT (Hazardous Material) Vehicle in record time for the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
BEL stated that these state-of-the-art systems' design, manufacture and supply were made before the deadline.
The CBRN HAZMAT vehicle is based on a Bharat Benz platform and will be used to detect, monitor and respond to hazardous chemical, biological or radiological incidents, where it is vital to plug/seal the source of contamination to contain any further release of hazardous substance.
The vehicles feature a fully enclosed, over-pressurised CBRN Shelter with NBC Filtration & Air Conditioning Unit. The operator compartment can accommodate six personnel. An integrated NBC Filtration System provides fresh air when the vehicle is in an NBC-contaminated area. A Handheld Thermal Imager provides night vision.
The use of Hazard Prediction Software allows the observer to take inputs about the CBRN threat, environmental data from the weather sensor and positioning data from the on-board GPS system and provide a realistic picture of the whole scenario to the Command & Control Centre, which will enable planning of rescue operations and further course of action.
Very High Frequency, High Frequency and satellite communication allows live audio, video and data communication between responders, vehicles and the remote command centre situated remotely.
The vehicle also contains decontamination chambers for decontaminating responders re-entering the vehicle after operations.
