BEL Wins $93 Mn Order from Airbus Defence and Space for C-295MW Programme

The Ministry of Defence inked a contract with Airbus Defence and Space, Spain in September for the purchase of 56 C-295MW transport aircraft for the Indian Air Force.

Airbus Defence and Space has entered into a contract with Bharat Electronics (BEL) worth $ 93.15 million for supply of Radar Warning Receivers (RWR) and Missile Approach Warning Systems (MAWS) for C-295MW aircraft to be manufactured in India. 

BEL has been awarded the contract as one of the Indian offset partners for the C-295MW deal and will supply the above equipment as part of indigenous Electronic Warfare (EW) suite. RWR and MAW equipment alert the pilots of the aircraft to hostile radar and missile threats. 

“The contract with Airbus Defence and Space is the biggest export order received till date by BEL. We are very happy to be part of the C-295 programme,” said Vinay Kumar Katyal, Director of Bengaluru Complex, BEL.

The MoD had also entered into an offset contract with Airbus Defence and Space through which the latter was to discharge its offset obligations by direct purchase of eligible products and services from Indian offset partners. 

Out of the 56 aircraft on order, 40 will be manufactured in India by a TATA Consortium and all aircraft are to be delivered by 2030.
