Auto Wholesales Drop 31.7% In November

Sales in November 2021 were lowest in seven years for PVs, lowest in 11 years for two-wheelers and lowest in 19 years for three-wheelers.


Vehicle sales

The wholesale numbers in November 2021 for passenger vehicles (PVs) dropped by 18.6% at 215,626 units in November 2021 against 264,898 units in the same month last year. Two-wheeler recorded 1,050,616 units in November 2021 against 1,600,379 units in November 2020. While the three-wheeler sales were at 22,471 units in November 2021 against 24,071 units in the same month last year. 

According to the latest data by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the wholesales Vehicles (except BMW, Mercedes, Tata Motors & Volvo Auto) for November 2021 dropped 31.7% to 1,288,759 units, and the YoY sales were in red across the segments. Total wholesales for the month also includes 46 units of quadricycles.

The total production of PVs, two/three-wheelers and quadricycles in November 2021 was 1,696,012 units against 2,297,179 units in the same month last year.

Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM, said the auto industry continues to face headwinds due to global semi-conductor shortages. In the festive season, the industry was hoping to make up for the lost ground, but the sales in November 2021 were lowest in seven years for PVs, lowest in 11 years for two-wheelers and lowest in 19 years for three-wheelers.

“Amidst the rising threat of Omicron, the new COVID variant, the industry is pro-actively ensuring employee safety and monitoring any supply chain hiccups,” he added.
