The Bangalore based EV manufacturing start-up, Ather Energy, on Thursday signed an MoU with Karnataka's ESCOMs (Electric Supply Companies) to jointly establish fast charging for two-wheelers in 1,000 sites across the state.

The collaboration aims to create a favourable ecosystem for EVs in the state and increase adoption.

As part of the agreement, the state-owned power transmission and distribution company ESCOM will be the nodal agency to provide all support to the implementing agency. Further, all government agencies would coordinate with ESCOMs to share their available spaces for charging stations.

Tarun Mehta, CEO and Co-Founder, Ather Energy, said, 'A robust charging network is one of the most important factors in accelerating EV adoption. Karnataka has been at the forefront of EVs and this will further the lead.'

According to the press release from the company, in the next three years, Ather plans to install about 5,000 fast chargers across India, and the MoU with the Karnataka government is the first step towards the goal.

At present, the EV start-up has installed 300 fast-charging Ather Grid Points across 28 cities in the country, including 58 fast-charging stations in Karnataka.
