An electric scooter by Ather had caught fire in Bengaluru, and the Hero MotoCorp-backed start-up has blamed 'a rare human error' as the cause behind the fire accident.
The fire was a result of incorrectly torqued connectors to the motor controller. The same resulted in sparking around the controller terminals, causing the fire.
However, the start-up noted that the scooter's defence mechanisms kicked in, and limited the damage. As a result, no damage was caused to the BMS, battery or dashboard. Ather also claims to have revamped its manufacturing process with better equipment since then.
Last year, the Indian electric scooter industry was plagued by fires, and a couple of OEMs have still not managed to retail scooters in the numbers they were doing before their scooters caught fire.
Notably, Ather had recently opened its 100th experience store in India. The start-up has also recently inaugurated its second manufacturing facility in Hosur.
