Ashok Leyland has been awarded the prestigious Mother Teresa Award for Corporate Citizen of the Year 2024. The honour was conferred at a ceremony held at Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA), with the award and citation presented to the company’s CSR team by Dr Palanivel Thiagarajan, Minister for Information Technology & Digital Services, Government of Tamil Nadu.
Established in 1998, the Mother Teresa Award for Corporate Citizen is one of India’s most esteemed accolades, celebrating organisations that demonstrate exemplary social responsibility, environmental sustainability, and community welfare. The award acknowledges corporations that extend their impact beyond business success, fostering meaningful and long-lasting societal change.
Expressing his gratitude, Shenu Agarwal, MD & CEO of Ashok Leyland, said, “This award is a great honour and reaffirms our commitment to nation-building. Our flagship initiatives, such as the ‘Road to School’ and ‘Road to Livelihood’ programs, have transformed the lives of over five lakh students, and we are set to expand further, adding another one lakh students in FY26.”
Balachandar NV, Head of CSR and Corporate Affairs, said, “For us, ‘Road to School’ is more than a CSR project—it is a movement to bridge educational disparities in rural India. This recognition motivates us to continue creating a tangible difference through education, healthcare, environmental conservation, and skill development.”
Transforming Education Through ‘Road to School’
Ashok Leyland’s ‘Road to School’ (RTS) initiative, in partnership with Learning Links Foundation, has made remarkable strides in improving education access and quality for children in government schools across rural and underserved communities.
Since its inception in 2015, the programme has expanded across seven states, reaching over 4,81,121 students in 2,505 schools. It focuses on holistic child development, incorporating academics, health, hygiene, emotional well-being, and sports, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on quality education and well-being.
