The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has evaluated SUN Mobility’s electric vehicle battery swap solution. The latter has become the first battery swap player in India to receive the IS 17017-1 & IEC 62840-2; Edition 1.02016-10 validation from ARAI.
It is worth noting here that there exist no standards for setting up electric vehicle battery swap stations in India. However, SUN Mobility had proactively reached out to ARAI to evaluate the former’s battery swap solution.
These tests were conducted based on global standards, noted Srinivasa, Chief Technical Officer, SUN Mobility. He said, “The validation by ARAI helps us reinforce the trust that our customers and partner ecosystem have put in us while adopting our battery swap solution. We will continue to strive to reinvent ourselves and lead the innovation curve for EV battery swapping space globally.”
SUN Mobility also received certification for its swappable battery pack as per the latest applicable standard AIS 156 from ARAI. All safety and electrical tests, such as battery pack overcharge, over-discharge, fire resistance, short circuit, mechanical and thermal shock, vibration, and drop test, were performed at ARAI in accordance with the AIS 156 Standard.
Over 185 battery swap stations have been set up by the company in over 15 cities so far. Anant Badjatya, CEO, SUN Mobility, in an earlier interaction with the Mobility Outlook team, had mentioned that his company was working on introducing battery swap franchises in India.
